Neurodiverse Challenges and Counselling

We all experience the world differently.

Some neurodivergent people including people who have ADHD, Dyspraxia, Dyslexia, Autism or even other neurodevelopmental differences may experience additional challenges with their every day life.

Learning to understand yourself may bring relief but it may also bring up some questions regarding your relationships, identity, expectations you have for yourself and what others may expect of you. Along with how long you have spent masking, trying to fit in and to feel accepted. All of this can seem overwhelming and exhausting.

Some of your challenges may include:

  • Social demands.

  • Challenges with sensory.

  • Challenges with managing your emotions.

  • Issues with your executive functioning.

  • Relationship difficulties.

  • Routine changes.

  • Coping with change.

  • Not feeling listened to or feeling misunderstood.

  • Low self-esteem, self-confidence and self-worth.

  • Masking to fit in.

  • Challenges with your identity.

  • Anxiety.

  • Depression.

  • Burnout.

  • Exhaustion.

How counselling may help you:

I offer a safe, calm and confidential space where you can speak freely, feel heard and explore your challenges without judgement. Allowing you to feel heard, valued and learn that you are not on this journey alone.

I would tailor sessions using approaches, techniques and coping strategies to suit your needs, involving being mindful of communication preferences, processing time, sensory needs and structure. My safe space would encourage you to feel like you do not have to explain yourself or mask. Working together, we would work at a pace that feels right and comfortable to you. Allowing us to explore your experiences and learn about your challenges, what helps you and what your needs and wants are. Along with practising coping strategies that feel manageable, supportive and encouraging to work towards being your true authentic self.

To reach out for support you do not need to have a formal diagnosis to discuss your neurodivergent experiences. I am here if you want to explore the possibility of being neurodivergent, have recently been diagnosed or would like to understand yourself, patterns, thoughts, emotions feelings and behaviours.
