Anxiety and Counselling
Do you find yourself not being able to switch your mind off and everything seems like it’s too much?
Can you recognise feelings of worry that is beginning to effect your sleep, relationships and self-confidence?
Everyone would experience anxiety during their life and it is a natural response and can sometimes be a response to a certain situation or a period of change. Which may feel uncertain, stressful or even threatening. But if your feelings of fear and worry start to seem persistent, overwhelming and affect your everyday life, your anxiety experiences may be become difficult to manage.
Anxiety affects both your mind and body. You may seem to be coping on the outside but on the inside feel exhausted, overwhelmed and unable to switch off. Where you find yourself spending a lot of time overthinking about the things that could go wrong, seek reassurance, replay conversations or think about the worst that could happen. You may avoid particular situations because they seem uncomfortable or difficult.
Before you reach out for help and support, you do not need to know exactly why you feel anxious.
How you may feel experiencing anxiety:

Restless, on edge, fidgeting.

Your chest may feel tight.
-

How counselling may help you:
I offer a safe, calm and confidential space where you can speak freely, feel heard and explore your challenges without judgement.
Tailoring sessions to suit you, together we would explore and start to understand what maybe encouraging or triggering your anxiety. This would involve exploring your thoughts, emotions, behaviours and patterns.
Working together we would work with your anxiety rather than pushing it down or trying to make it go away. Where we would learn to become curious about your anxiety and not be critical. As this would allow you to gain a deeper understanding of yourself and explore positive ways with how you could respond to your challenging emotions and thoughts in healthier way with self-compassion.
You do not have to face your challenges on your own. Reaching out for help can seem overwhelming, especially when your anxiety is already making things challenging for you.
Counselling would provide you with the opportunity to slow things down, feel heard and start to understand yourself as you move forward in a healthy, positive way.
If you feel you would like to speak about your experiences, how you feel and see if counselling could be right for you, please get in touch.

Here are some things that may help:
-
Talking to a professional or someone you trust is an important first step and could help you with support. This could be your GP, a counsellor or another healthcare professional.
-
Try taking slow deep breaths in from your nose, holding for about four seconds and then slowly releasing from your mouth. (Only to be carried out if you have no heart issues and the GP has confirmed it is o.k to do so.)
-
Try using your five senses and focus on thing you can see, hear, touch, feel and taste within your environment.
-
Try to eat regular meals, get enough sleep and physical activity.
-
You could try to break any big tasks into smaller ones so they do not seem so overwhelming.
-
Try to carry out self-compassion, allow yourself some time to rest. Is there anything you need at that present moment?
