Exploring Relationships and Counselling

Relationships can be a huge meaningful part of your life as they can allow you to feel accepted, bring joy and connection but at the same time they may bring conflict, uncertainty, vulnerability, challenging emotions and pain.

Relationships challenges are not just about the relationship itself as they could bring up past experiences, fears and patterns that could be difficult for you to understand.

Do you find yourself experiencing the same relationship patterns?

Maybe you notice yourself struggling to say ‘no’ or you give in too much.

Maybe you avoid conflict until it all becomes too overwhelming and too much.

Maybe you wonder why relationships begin well but eventually become challenging.

If you are able to understand and recognise your patterns, you can then learn where they came from and start to work with them.

How counselling may help you:

I offer a safe, calm and confidential space where you can speak freely, feel heard and explore your challenges without judgement.

Tailoring sessions to suit you, together we would explore your relationship difficulties, whether it is in a friendship, romantic relationship, family relationship or a different important connection. Overtime we would explore how your relationship is affecting you, your thoughts, emotions, behaviours and patterns.

This may include:

  • Understanding your needs and wants for yourself but also for you in the relationship.

  • Create healthier boundaries.

  • Explore and understand how your past experiences maybe affecting your current relationships.

  • Exploring conflicts and communication.

  • Explore expressing your boundaries, needs and wants.

  • Explore closeness, emotional connection and trust.

  • Explore relationship patterns, attachment and attachment styles.

  • Explore family and friendship difficulties.

  • Explore your self-confidence and self-esteem with relationships.

  • Explore loss, separation and relationship changes.

  • Learn to understand past experiences and accept how they have impacted relationships.

  • How you may respond when your relationship changes or you feel uncertain.

  • How previous relationships have impacted with how you relate to others.

During our sessions and time together, it would allow you the opportunity to slow down, listen and self-reflect upon your thoughts, feelings, patterns and behaviours. As you begin to self-reflect you will gain deeper self-awareness and learn of self-compassion that would encourage you to understand you do not have to know the answers straight away without feeling pressured.
